Farm Calendar & Hours for Summer 2012 Our farm is a busy place during the summer months, and we are available most of the time, but periodically we are closed due to reserved activities, days off, daylily events, or family activities. Please find below a calendar which may help you determine the best time for a visit to Solaris Farms (Please note that our daily hours have changed). We do not open the gardens until July 6th (unless bloom season arrives early), and daylily bloom season generally starts after July 18th. In the past we opened at the beginning of July, but this period of time has few flowers and has proven to be difficult for flower shoppers to make selections. We dig and sell most of our daylilies and Lilium during peak bloom and find that the plants establish and grow very well for our Midwest customers. If you visit the farm and are interested in purchasing daylilies and/or Lilium, please remember it takes us some time to dig plants and label them so you can take them home. The advantages of having plants dug on the spot are 1) you are able to see the plants in bloom for a better perspective 2) you will likely get larger plants 3) plant growth is geared for easy transplant during this period 4) comparison of different cultivars in bloom helps in proper selection. Solaris Farms is a place you can spend much time wondering, so your visit should be very enjoyable. We now have comfortable seating in shaded arbor settings and packing a lunch and picnicing is a welcome activity. Simply enjoy the quiet country setting...pack a lunch and take a load off!!! May: Open by appointment only. Peony season is in full swing and we are hybridizing and weeding. We will post open house dates for Peony bloom for those interested in the update pane of the main page. If you'd like to visit please email us at info@solarisfarms.com. June: Open by appointment only. Peony season is reaching completion and we are hybridizing and weeding. If you'd like to visit please email us at info@solarisfarms.com. Daylilies are not yet in bloom (even if they are in your garden) and the farm is getting ready for the big show!
September and October: Solaris Farms is open by appointment week nights and weekends. Please contact us via e-mail. Peony digging and shipping during September and October is in full swing, thus we are unavailable for visits. We are also propagating peonies during these months and ship peonies bare-root from September 15th through November. Appointments may be made to pickup fall peony orders. We do not recommend planting daylilies after August 20 (best time to plant is during flowering or just after). November through April: Closed to all farm business at this time. We do, however, take internet website orders for the coming year and can be contacted via email. Nate also teaches from late August to early June. |
